Many potential students currently hold a visa that is something other than F-1. In most cases, only F-1 visa holders can take a full time course load at the ESL Center.

If your visa is anything other than F-1 and you want to change your status to an F-1 Visa, take the following steps:

  1. Arrange a meeting with the Manager of the International Education (call 662-325-2648 or email eslc@aoce.msstate.edu)
  2. Bring the following documents to the meeting:
  1. During the meeting, we will discuss the risks and benefits of changing your visa in your particular situation.
  2. If you decide to change your status, we will collect the above information and begin processing the forms for you.

It takes us approximately 3 days to complete the change-of-status paperwork. When we are finished, we will contact you to sign the paperwork. We will give you a copy of the paperwork, and we will file it for you.

The Department of Homeland Security actually makes all change-of-status decisions. It usually takes 1-2 months for a change of status to be completed, but these times can vary.
