Conversation Partner Program

Would you like to learn more about another country? Would you like to practice a foreign language with a native speaker? If so, then consider becoming a conversation partner!Students Reading

The English as a Second Language (ESL) Center is proud to sponsor the Conversation Partner Program, a free, volunteer-based outreach program aimed at bridging the gap between American and international students.

What is a Conversation Partner?

As a volunteer in the Conversation Partner (CP) Program, you have the opportunity to meet with a non-native speaker of English for speaking practice, friendship, and to expand each other’s awareness of the world. A CP chooses when and where to meet their partner. We only ask that you do meet at least one time, once a week, and spend at least half of the meeting speaking English.Table of students talking

American students: Simply submit some information on the next page and the program coordinator will get started on finding you a partner!

Please Note: Requests cannot always be fulfilled and are not guaranteed (unless you are a female requesting a female partner). Most of our international students come from Asia and the Far East, the Middle East, and Latin America. Rarely do we have European students. In addition, American (non-international) partners must be native speakers of English.
